World of Warcraft is not DotA

Dota is not WoW. Plain and simple. Many massive multiplayer online roleplaying game players all over the world don’t know which company created or published the game that they are playing. It is really not that important but it doesn’t hurt to know either. It is always better to know something than nothing right? Well, again, unless the MMORPG is super popular because of either the company is already popular or they spend millions in advertising, people won’t know which company is behind the game they’re playing. I bet all the in-game gold I have that I am telling a fact.

This topic came into mind because I have encountered many people that think the Warcraft franchise was just a product of DotA. It never ceases to make me laugh every time I hear someone that Blizzard only copied the idea from that popular MOBA game. The number of people I get to know that has this knowledge is adding up and I have to point it out to them and through this post.

Okay, I know that the majority of players of DotA2 now belong to the younger generation and they probably didn’t catch the glory days of Warcraft, Warcraft 2 and Warcraft 3, but saying that Blizzard just copied the IP from DotA is ridiculous. I also someone even said that they don’t want to play World of Warcraft because they took the IP from DotA. Actually, it is the other way around. Defense of the Ancients was just a custom map in Warcraft 3. The heroes in DotA were inspired by the personalities in Warcraft. Even the skills were based on them. DotA garnered popularity because of how easy it was compared to micromanaging in the normal campaign mode. A player only had to focus on one hero and make it as strong as it can be to win. What made it more fun as it was, it was a multiplayer. Max of ten players in a game brought chaos and excitement. In addition to this, Blizzard didn’t create DotA and Valve didn’t either. It was created by IceFrog. Go research on who IceFrog is.

So yes, spread the word. Don’t interchange the facts. Also, I really think it is stupid to confuse things and say things that you don’t have knowledge of.
